Sharon Historical Society & Museum

The mission of the Sharon Historical Society & Museum is to collect and share Sharon's stories.  In 1911, a group of local history enthusiasts in Sharon formed the 'Poconnuck Historical Society'.  The group researched and prepared papers to present to society members at regular meetings. The name of the society was later changed to the Sharon Historical Society & Museum.

The strengths of our collection are an archive of photography, including over a century of photography by Frances Morehouse Kelsey and George M. Marckres documenting Sharon history, objects and archival texts describing the early iron industry and land-use history, portraits by folk artist Ammi Phillips, American furniture from colonial to colonial revival, decorative arts, and textiles and fashion arts. We are located in the historic 1775 Gay-Hoyt House, and we serve members and the public through:

  • Historical Exhibitions, Lectures and Classes
  • Contemporary Gallery Art Shows and Receptions
  • Community Events
  • A Reading Room
  • Online collections and educational content
