Voting in the Presidential Primary

Only registered voters of the major party holding a primary, Republican or Democrat, may vote in the that party’s primary.  Members of minor parties (Independent, Working Family, Green Party and Libertarian) or unaffiliated voters (not a member of any party) are not eligible to vote in either primary.  The deadline has passed for changing major parties or minor to major party to participate in the Primary.

Voters who are registered as unaffiliated (not a member of any major or minor party) may register in a party up to 12 noon, Monday April 1st,  the day before the primary if opting to vote in person or by absentee ballot.  If wishing to vote during the scheduled “early voting” period, a voter must enroll in a party up to noon on Monday, March 25th.

NEW VOTERS:  If voting in person at the polls or by absentee ballot; you may register in person up until Monday, April 1 at 12:00 noon.  Individuals who are not registered voters but want to vote during the early voting period may register by noon on the business day before the day they want to vote during such period.

VOTING IN THE PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE PRIMARY:

IN PERSON DAY OF PRIMARY:  Polls will be open Tuesday April 2nd, 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  Voting is at Sharon Town Hall, 63 Main Street and the Polling place is on the second floor in the Chapin Meeting Room. Elevator and Handicap access is located in the rear entrance of the building.

EARLY VOTING: This year marks the first time for early voting in Connecticut. 
In person voting will be available: 
10:00 AM – 6:00 PM on the following dates,
Tuesday, March 26th
Wednesday, March 27th
Thursday, March 28th and
Saturday, March 30th. 
(No voting on March 29th in observance of Good Friday-Town Hall will be closed)

ABSENTEE BALLOT:  If you cannot appear at the polling place on Primary Day, Election Day or during Early Voting, absentee ballots are available beginning on March 12, 2024. An application needs to be completed and returned to the Town Clerk’s office either by mail, PO Box 224, Sharon, CT  06069, in person, or by using the black drop box located by the rear entrance of Sharon Town Hall.  When the absentee ballots become available, March 12, they can be mailed to you with proper application or you may have one issued to you in person by coming to the Town Clerk’s Office to pick one up in person.

RETURNING YOUR ABSENTEE BALLOT:  You can mail, place in Official Drop box, personally return or have a designee.  Sec. 9-140b. (Formerly Sec. 9-146). Return of absentee ballots; use of secure drop box. Possession of ballots and envelopes restricted.   In order for your absentee ballot to be counted it must be received prior to the close of polls on primary or election day.
