Mary Moore Preserve - Loop Trail Extension
March 30 - April 17, Monday to Friday, 9am to 12pm, and possibly 1pm to 4pm
Parking is on Williams Road just off of route 41.

Mary Moore Preserve is a key property in the land trusts holdings.  It offers exceptional views with little effort.  This 3-mile there-and-back hike is a fun and moderately strenuous activity, especially if you hike to Hamlin and then turn back.  But many surveyed hikers say they only go as far as the scenic view, 0.7 miles from the parking lot.  One of the potential issues may be that hikers must turn around and hike back along the same path.  Most hikers prefer loop trails.  It is because of this fact that a new 1-mile loop trail extension has been designed.

The new trail will cross the center of the upper field, and into the forest.  It will cross through amazing rocky talus fields and mini ravines, before turning at a 60 foot cliff and stream and heading up towards the peak of the mountain.  The initial push will be at the beginning, where we will be moving rock and creating a stable trail bed through the talus field and mini ravine.  It will be a great experience for anyone who has wondered how you cut, crush and move large rocks by hand.  And the rest of the trail will be a fantastic learning experience for anyone wondering about building beautiful, sustainable trails.  View the trail plan here.  Contact:  timhunter@sharonlandtrust.org for more details and to sign up.
