The Sharon Land Trust protects and preserves lands of special scenic, natural, environmental, recreational, historic or agricultural value to the rural atmosphere of the town of Sharon. Lands are protected through conservation easements or purchase. As of 2008 the Sharon Land Trust has protected over 2,000 acres of land. Several hundred acres are open to the public for hiking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing.

You can support the Land Trust with your tax-deductible donations. In addition, there are opportunities to participate more actively. Land monitors, a popular volunteer position, keep an eye on an assigned property and keep boundary pins accessible and well marked. While walking their assigned property, monitors might note mowing and trimming needs, erosion or litter problems, or report unusual animal and plant life found in the area. On some properties trail development is needed, including exploring, blazing and mapping new and existing trails.
