“Spirit of Sharon” - 2nd Annual Photo Contest

Submission guidelines: Photos being entered into the "Spirit of Sharon" 2nd Annual Photo Contest must be of a subject related to Sharon, Connecticut taken by Sharon residents only. The overall purpose of this contest is to portray the beauty of Sharon and its environs. Please be sure to read all requirements before submitting photos as all submissions are final. Photo submissions not meeting the criteria will not be judged.
What to enter: Images of life in Sharon. For instance: Sharon architecture, habitats, landscapes, nature, people interacting with nature - anything in Sharon, of Sharon and about Sharon. Please do not include photographs of pets or family portraits. If you choose to include people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary releases for the individual(s) depicted and must provide copies of the signed releases to the Town of Sharon upon request.
All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization will be disqualified. Acceptable standard optimization includes: removal of dust, cropping, and reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast. Photos cannot be computer enhanced in any way using graphics software.
Photo captions must accompany all submissions, and should include the subject of the image, the location and date the image was taken.
Each photographer is allowed to submit a maximum of three photographs. No duplicate photos will be allowed. This includes duplicate photographs in different shades such as, black and white or sepia. All images must be in JPEG format. Please submit images no larger than 5 megabytes. Never before submitted photos to any "Spirit of Sharon" photo contest only.
Categories: There are five divisions: professional photographers, adult, grades 9-12, grades 6-8, and grades 1-5. A single winner plus an honorable mention will be selected from each category. There must be a minimum of four entries for each category in order for that category to be considered for judging.
Judging: A panel of judges will select the winners in each category. All entries will be judged on composition, technique, content, and originality. All decisions of the judges with respect to all aspects of the contest are final. The Web Site Committee has the right to reject any photograph or to declare no winner in any or all categories. Entrants may be asked to supplement their submission (such as a paragraph about their photo, the highest resolution version of their photo, or a watermark-free version of their photo) anytime on or after October 22, 2012. Finalists will be announced on or before November 15th, 2012
Exhibition: The prize-winning images will be published in our Sharon CT e-Newsletter and may be used in other publications of the Town of Sharon. All winning photographs and honorable mentions will be displayed in Town Hall.
