United Methodist Church
Worship Service - Sunday morning
"Touching Lives, Lifting Spirits"
Construction of the present church building was begun in 1835 and finished in 1836. Upon its completion it was considered one of the finest churches in Litchfield County. Over the years the exterior of the church was altered, between 1894 and 1904 the chapel and Norman tower were added.
Fellowship events include "Fellowship Friday" dinner/programs each month, preparing Health Kits for the N.Y. Annual Conference, a yearly stuffed animal collection for children at the Sharon Hospital ER, and evening Coffee Houses shared with the Congregational Church. Seasonal crafted gifts are provided for residents of Sharon Health Care, and food is collected for the local food pantry. The church participates in the annual CROP Walk, and Souper Bowl Sunday. Funds are sent to help support day care centers in Bolivia.
Fund-raising events include a summer fair, a Thanksgiving pie sale, Christmas Fair and Wreath sale, a food booth at the Art-On-The-Green Show, and tag sales. Funds raised help support the current expense budget.
Kwang-il Kim became the newest pastor of the church in July of 2010. Originally from South Korea Rev. Kim and his wife Young came to the Sharon Methodist Church after serving at the First UMC in Brewster, NY. He is also serving the Lakeville UMC.
