The Sharon Historic District (SHD) is a unit of Sharon's Town Government. Its purpose is to preserve and protect the historical heritage and character of the areas within the District boundaries of our Town. The procedures followed in the SHD's establishment included an approval vote of more than 2/3 of the District property owners.
The Sharon Historic District Commission (SHDC) consists of five regular members and three alternate members appointed for 5 year terms (3 for alternates) by the Town's Board of Selectmen. At least 2 regular members and 1 alternate must live within the Historic District. All are volunteers; none receive salaries from the Town.
The Commission is organized and operates under principles set forth in Chapter 93a, Section 7-147 of the Statutes of the State of Connecticut as well as those of the Sharon Historic District Rules and Procedures.
